BE CAREFUL AND PREPARED ON THE DOCKS AND ON THE WATER
We all know that we need to do everything that we can possibly do to be safe in areas close to water.
We all know we need to:
- wear our lifejackets
- be sure our life jackets are in good shape
- familiarize ourselves with safety equipment on the Docks (Maps of safety equipment are posted in the Clubhouse and on the Docks)
- familiarize ourselves with the location of safety equipment close to our slips
- look around our slip and plan how to get out of the water if we or another were to fall in.
Attached on the website are 3 important documents:
- We had a member fall into the water between the slip and her boat; she has recorded her experience and given some recommendations in her Report .
- The Risk Management Committee has read the members Report of the Incident, examined the site, and made a Report with Recommendations.
- A Report from the Ladysmith Yacht Club on the incident on the Docks where a boater came into the Reciprocal Docks, fell in, his life jacket did not inflate, he could not get out, he called for help but he did not get rescued in time and he drowned on March 23, 2026.
PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO ENSURE YOUR SAFETY BY THE WATER!
